Club Philosophy

There are several basic tenants that guide the entire Mustangs Soccer Club organization:

  • First and foremost, our players should develop character, a sense of fair play and sportsmanship. Our coaches teach these vital traits through leadership and example.
  • Second, the skills, nuances and enjoyment of the game of soccer are taught and shared by the coaches, players and families.
  • Third, the club should develop teams that will be able to compete successfully at the highest levels of each teams' ability. This will mean travel throughout Monroe County and the state of New York and beyond, representing the Pittsford Mustangs Soccer Club.

Having established those basic tenants of the Pittsford Mustangs Soccer Club, a distinction of emphasis has been established to reflect the fact that children vary in maturity and skills depending on age.

For example, in the younger age groups (age 12 and under), the primary emphasis is to teach soccer. Attendant to this, therefore, each team will carry a full roster, except in unusual cases and then only with the Mustang Board of Directors approval. Each player will play, on average, at least one half of each game, and he/she will have game experience averaging one half of the total season's game time (assuming that the player has been in attendance at all the practices and games).

In the older age groups (age 13 and over), the emphasis will shift to the development of teams that will produce the most competitive play. Each player can expect to play a reasonable amount of time (to be determined by his/her coaches) and there is more flexibility on the size of team rosters.
